Interested in policy? Animal Welfare, One Health. The committees work primarily by email reviewing position statements and helping with responses to current issues.
Interested in legislation? Government Relations Committee. Help review and create position statements on proposed legislation specific to the veterinary profession.
Interested in communications? Communications Committee – press releases, press interviews, writing or sharing technical content for the website
Interested in social networking? New Member Committee – informal gathering once a month at various places in Vermont (see Anne Culp and First Thursdays) to network and just relax with colleagues. Following up with new members to introduce them to the organization.
Interested in leadership? Veterinary leader; Power of 10; Member-At-Large (non-voting) seat on EB. The Veterinary leader is the recipient of all-expense-paid trips to Portland Maine for the NEVMA conference and to Veterinary Leadership Conference in Chicago. What we ask in return is to find a volunteer position that suits your interests and also to write a short recap of your experiences at both conferences.
Interested in Leadership positions? President-Elect – 2 year term followed by 2 years as President, followed by 2 years as Past-President. Work with a great team and have full administrative support from the ED.
- AVMA House of Delegates – The Delegate is a 4 year term. The Alternate Delegate is a 4 year term and is an elected position (VVMA members). The Alternate Delegate becomes the Delegate after 4 years. Travel to AVMA’s House of Delegate’s meetings at various location. Stipend provided by VVMA; some expenses covered by AVMA.
Interested in Fundraising for a cause? The VVMA Foundation provides scholarship funds to Vermonters attending veterinary school. Now that we have returned to in-person meetings, it is time to start our silent auctions again, the proceeds of which go to our scholarship fund. We are in need of someone to organize, solicit gifts for the silent auction. Once or twice a year.
Interested in Education? Chair of the Small Animal, Large Animal-Bovine, Large Animal-Equine committees receive free registration to all VVMA events. These positions entail soliciting speakers and sponsors for our conferences. Full administrative support from VVMA ED.
Interested in Animal Welfare?
- VDART – technical assistance in disaster preparedness in Vermont (guidance for setting up temporary animal shelters, etc.); guidance for responding to emergency situations in the state (flooding, other storm related events)
- Animal Cruelty Investigations Task Force
Training to assist in criminal animal cruelty/abuse cases. Four levels of training provided by The Vermont Humane Federation. Registration fees are paid by the VVMA
Other Appointed positions:
- Representative to the NEVMA Board. This can be one or two people. Commitment is 4 years but workload is very light for three of the four-year term.
- One or two veterinarians needed for the Vermont Technical College vet tech curriculum review committee. Meets once a year.
Short-term once a year opportunities:
- join our scholarship selection committee;
- food animal veterinary education task force to select recipients of loan repayment grant.
